The Hub-Terra Team
Who we are
At present, we are a small but focused team of experts who specialize in biology, environmental law, geospatial technologies, and advanced modeling. Our vision is to grow into an interdisciplinary team that can address a wide range of challenges in conservation, land management, and natural resource planning. Our combined expertise includes ecology, biology, geomatics, environmental law, and spatial modeling. As we look to expand, we are actively seeking collaborators who share our passion and can contribute to a comprehensive understanding of both natural and human-influenced landscapes.
Our Mission
Our mission is to develop actionable insights and solutions for conservation and sustainable management of natural resources. We harness an array of cutting-edge techniques—ranging from remote sensing to habitat suitability modeling—to serve both public and private entities in their quest for a sustainable future.

Our Approach
Our work leverages a suite of tools and methodologies. While we utilize remote sensing technologies like satellite imagery, LiDAR, and drones, our services also extend to advanced modeling applications, environmental consultation, and legal expertise in land use and conservation.
Research and projects
We focus on a range of high-impact projects that contribute to a better understanding and management of ecological systems. Examples include:
- Investigating the spatiotemporal dynamics of invasive species in the Iberian Peninsula.
- Analyzing the impact of climate change on Mediterranean ecosystems.
- Assisting in regulatory compliance and land-use planning through specialized legal consultation.
- Analyzing human-wildlife conflict at local and regional scales.

Team

Jessica Bernal
Co-founder – PhD(c) Agri-Food Biosciences
Pursuing a PhD at the University of Córdoba, Jessica is a highly skilled biologist with specializations in geomatics, spatial modelling, and environmental law. She has made significant contributions to the study of human-wildlife conflict in Limpopo National Park and was honoured with the Terra Málaga Research Award in 2022 for her work on hydrological risks. Over the years, Jessica has built an impressive portfolio in environmental impact analysis, having assessed more than 30 projects for Spain’s Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge, covering sectors like energy, linear infrastructures, and soil contamination.

David Bello
Co-founder – MSc Geomatics and Spatial Modelling
Equipped with a biology degree from the University of Málaga, and a Master’s degree from the University of Córdoba, David has a diverse range of skills from geomatics and remote sensing to consulting and auditing in renewable energy, environmental quality, and health. Leading the implementation of AENOR’s COVID-19 Protocol in Madrid, he has a deep understanding of the importance of proper policy implementation in both public and private sectors. His experience also includes environmental legislation, species conservation, and appreciating the agricultural value of biodiversity, making him a key asset in sustainability and environmental conservation projects.

Miguel Á. Corrales
Bioinformatician – PhD Advanced Biotechnology
Miguel has an extensive background as a phytopathologist, bioinformatician and data scientist at institutions like PSC-CAS in Shanghai, China, and SLU in Uppsala, Sweden. His focus on host-pathogen interactions and expertise in agricultural biotechnology brings a unique perspective to the Hub-Terra team. His ability to develop bioinformatics tools and his knowledge of biostatistics are crucial for advancing research and development projects in systems biology and crop improvement. His current work on host-pathogen interactions in wheat and diverse fungal pathogens enhances our understanding in microbiology, potentially impacting agricultural improvements positively.

Alejandro López
Environmental Communicator – MSc Evolutionary Biology and Education
Alejandro, with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and two Master’s degrees, one in Evolutionary Biology from the University of Málaga and another in Secondary Education from the University of Almería, is known for his passion for education and environmental conservation. His experience as an educator and guide at various nature centres has led him to focus on scientific communication and environmental awareness. His skill in conveying scientific knowledge to a broad and diverse audience, coupled with his commitment to environmental protection, makes him a valuable member of the Hub-Terra team, contributing an essential educational and conservation perspective to our projects.
